Chiang Mai

Our first evening in Chiang Mai with camera in hand, we came across this gentleman whilst on our way to the weekly Sunday markets. We approached him and greeted him in Thai and he needed no prompting to tell us his story. Although he didn’t speak a word of English, we understood enough to know his wounds were made by a gun, and he showed us a round still lodged in his thigh bone. To go through such an ordeal, and then to be homeless is some life to live. We gave him 200 BAHT (about £4.50) gesturing he should use it to eat, the way he responded was as if he had won the lottery.
